Copyright Issues
Hey all - love the new forum and think it's a great addition. However, if you are thinking of posting something written by someone else, please take a moment before you do and decide whether it is a public domain work that you can republish here.
Most of the "Anonymous" works out there are considered public domain, but if the author is a known individual (or company for that matter), then it may be subject to copyright. Just because it's on the web for anyone to read does not mean anyone can copy it and paste it on another site, even if you are identifying the author in the republication.
Oftentimes, if a work is considered public domain, the author will identify it as such, sometimes by actively encouraging others to copy and republish. Also, there is a lot of written work out there that does not appear on the author's website - in those cases, always assume that the website that is posting it DOES NOT have permission to republish it unless it explicitly says so. So, if there is no invitation from the author to republish the work, and the author is identified, then let's err on the side of caution and not post the works of others.
Of course, if what you are posting is an original work written by you, then no worries - you are the copyright owner, so post away!
As always, if you have any questions, feel free to contact me by PM.
