Default A couple of Preventative Maintenance Questions

I just changed all the fluids and plugs.

I have a very small drip like one or two drops every 24 hours out of the primary drain plug.
- I should have gotten a O-ring and didn't realize it until I was about done. I asked for a received the ones for the Oil and Transmissions. I am not sure why I nor that dumbass didn't say oh and one for the Primary drain plug too. I don't do it for a living so he is a bigger dumbass.
- Should I worry and go get a new drain plug (wallered it a little tightening as tight as I feel comfortable doing without stripping totally) and O-ring now?

Also I put in an OZ or at the most 2 oz's too much in the transmission.
- Should I drain that out before too much use or is 1 or 2 oz's over OK?

All recommendations will be read and considered. Some will actually be followed.

I appreciate your opinion ahead of time.

#1: Replace your primary fluid and the o ring, see if it fixes the leak....if not then, try a new oil plug. YOu should turn those things until you feel decent friction, then one more quarter turn that's it.

#2 I would remove the access oil in the tranny, with a chicken baster or something, having the correct oil levels is important(check it with bike upright). It's always easier to do the wrong way, but it always pays off doing it the right way..

Thanks boss man. These newer primary drain plugs have a lip and stop on them. I though like you until I got to reassessing the situation that you would do the one more quarter turn thing. I guess I will get an O-ring and new drain screw and just do it to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the advice. Being lazy and ignoring shit is always the worst way to do. I am not sure why I have a hard time learning that. Good idea with the chicken baster.

There is a gasket kit for twinkies that provides everything you need in in one package George. For future reference I will post the part number when I get home if Ram doesn't beat me to it.

i couldn't find the part # for the gasket kit. Just ask for the service kit that the tech's in the back use. It has o-rings for all the drain plugs, inspection cover gasket, and a derby cover gasket.

the tranny on my bike calls for 20 to 24 oz. of fluid. Personally, if i was at 25 oz. and i had time to kill. I "might" try to get an oz out of it. Make sure you are checking the fluid the correct way. My service manual says to check the tranny with the bike level, at operating temp, with the threads just touching threads on the dip stick. In other words, don't thread the dip stick and check the level. Just set it in the hole, make sure it has thread on thread contact and then check the level.

I always run synthetic in my primary. Not only does it lube a chain, it also lubes the clutch plates. Lots of heat there. For the cost of an o-ring and a quart of lube. Drain the primary. Install new o-ring. Torque plug to proper setting. Open inspection cover. Pour in new lube. Replace inspection cover gasket and reinstall the cover. Job done.

Thanks everybody. I got it all fixed up. Got a new drain plug and o ring for $3.56 USD.

Suck an OZ out of the tranny. Ready to roll. I had just replaced the primary oil so I just added a tad to it and put the cover back on. All appears to be leak free this AM.
