Default 26 mpg - wtf ??

So I got me a new 2007 Heritage Softail classic late last year . I was thinking - sure I'll get way better gas mileage than my Old 2000 Fatboy . Should I be surprised that Im only getting 26 mpg then ? The bike is suppossed to get 34 mpg in town and 53 mpg on the highway .. It has a 5 gallon tank and I get 130 miles before my yellow almost out of gas light comes on ..

Iv'e got a little over 3800 miles on it now and I have Vance n Hines Big Radius Pipes , a Sert , and a high flow air kit installed . I didnt have the cash to take it in for the 500 or the 1000 mile tuneup . Im planning on waiting for the 5k one as Im almost there now . I did change the oil at 500 miles and 3000 miles . Im curious if the Sert needs to be reflashed or something ..

26 mpg just dont seem right to me ....

I am not sure what the problem is, but 26 mpg does seem way off based on the modifications you have done to the bike.

Hells is that MPG just cruising or riding hard? If it is cruising then you need to check that map cause something ain't right there. Especially with a 6 speed in it. Sounds like you are running rich, whats the Air /Fuel mix set at?

Hells, you Mofo...go to the dealer that installed that SERT and ask for a copy of your MAP. They usually keep them on file and if you bring them a data CD they will load it for you. That is the only way to know what kind of fuel ratio and ingition settings you got. Once you get that disk, I can change anything you want on it, and I'm getting good at it after dicking around with my bagger for a couple of years.

You definitely need to take it back and complain, that is no where close to normal.

Let Jet work on it We get +/- 40mpg on our bagger, fully loaded, and 2-up running 70mph.

Hi Red!!!! I'll be glad to work on Hell's bike. I'm getting just about the same mileage as you but I ride one up most of the time, carring a lot of tools, beer, rain gear, beer, leathers, beer, change of clothes, beer...you get the point...that bike is HEAVY all the time....

Just had some thoughts on the way home from work this am .. I have noticed that my bike will *cough and spit* in 2 situations .. If Im in 4th gear and between 40 and 45 mph , and in 6th gear when Im between 70 and 75 mph . All the other gears never have hiccups so I wasnt sure what this might mean but figured I'd post it here in case someone might know ...

Good Night Fookers !!!!

What do your plugs look like? Is it always a certain RPM range?
