Default Lifter noise

Just did the R/R cam chain tensioners on a buddys new (To him) but used 47K Fatboy. We did it through the rocker boxes so we could see how the breathers looked. It was puking alot of oil through the air filter. The breathers wer the old plastic type so those got replaced with the newer aluminum ones.(That fixed that problem).
Two years back I had replaced my oil pump, lifters, pushrods during a cam swap to gear drive. The old lifters only had 1500 miles. I decided to use these lifters in my buddys bike instead of his old ones that had 47K on them. I figured they had to be in better shape. Less miles=better.
He was there when we fired the bike up and it made more noise than my 124" in the valve train. I figured it to be the lifters. All else sounded fine. We ran the bike up to a warmed up state and the noise had subsided. After a short road test the noise had gone away completley. I have spoken with a few wrenches about it, and the concenses is one or more of the lifters were temporarley cloged, and had fixed themselves. I went out and started it after a 24 hour break and had no noise at all. She purs like a kitten.

So, what do you all think was the issue?

It just took a time for them to pump up especially if the body wasn't completely full after installation.

Gimme a yell tonight John.

i would tend to agree that one or more lifter loss it's prime aether from getting knocked over or what ever usely a good method is to soak a lefter over night in a dish of oil before installing

They were all layin on the side fer 1-1/2 years or about.
I did soak them overnight, but did not inject them with oil prior to install.
They did quit down though.
I was told today that they will do the same thing after a long trailer ride. Just roll the throttle a bit during warm up is all ya need. Got to love that 1908 tractor technology.

The oil that was in them probably just dried up and needed to have new oil come in and loosen it up to get them working properly again. I have had that happen many times with car engines, especially small block Chev lifters.

Arn't they the same as a 350 lifter? Or is it that a 350 lifter would work in a pinch?
