Default Adjustable Push Rods

I recently did a S&S 510 gear drive cam install on my bike. I cut the old push rods with a bolt cutter which meant that I had to install adjustable push rods in my bike. Not a big deal. I put about 600 miles on this setup when I had a god awful rattling sound coming from my bike. This unfortunately happened on our way to Daytona. We put the bike on a trailer and hauled it back to Coolmakers house. We removed the push rod covers and found one that had come out of adjustment and the other 3 were loose. My point here is make damn sure those things are tight. I thought I had them tight enough, maybe i did, maybe i did not. This is worth a check and double check. Make sure you don't have a wrench binding on another wrench when you tighten the lock nuts. An easy mistake to make, one that I won't make again. Special thanks to Johnny and Butch for helping me get this fixed.

Just don't beat yourself up for it buddy. What I learned watching Butch and Johnny operate on the engine was well worth the slight delay.

Besides, I think we learn "mo betta" when we make a mistake or two. You are a much better wrench now because of it. When you do Moms "Puff", I'd be willing to bet those push rods will be tight.

He had them adjusted correctly, and he tightened the jam nuts too. However, it seemed that he did not get the jam nuts quite as tight as was needed to keep them from backing off.

Ram you are quite welcome for the help. This way, you got to ride the bike to Daytona, and enjoy it.
