OK.
2006 Ultra Classic. Stage I air cleaner. Rinehart True Duals PCIII. I have been struggling with high temperatures. I know, nothing critical to worry about. But here's the thing. I'm using synthetic, I've installed an oil cooler, I have a permanent oil filter with heat sinks on it, and I've had the PCIII mapped and remapped. Finally, today I removed the lowers from the bike. Hell, they needed cleaning anyway. Grabbed the old lady and we just went for an hour cruise through the country. All country roads, no traffic, no nothing... We pulled into The Little Bar (Ironhorse Saloon now) and the temperature reading was 221*. Ya'd think with all the cooling crap I've installed, plus removing the lowers, she'd barely be breaking 210*. And she's pretty much stock! Oh, I do have the Baker DD6 - so I'd think she'd run cooler still... Next thing I'm going to check is the oil dipstick thermometer. I'm out of options now, aside from installing fans behind the cooler. But I don't ride in that much traffic, so I'm not worried too much about keeping her cool at idle. Any insight? Hell I'd hate to see what she would be running if I didn't have the cooler, filter, synthetic oil and the richer PC Map. |

I think you are on the right track. I would confirm the temp that your dip stick is giving you is correct. Sounds like it could be off. I have heard that those things are not exactly accurate but I do know of one person that boiled his and confirmed the reading against another thermometer.
