Default Hog family by heir, want to make it official!

HEY ALL,

Sittin here in good 'ol Kabul, Afghanistan just hangin out watchin' some Sons Of Anarchy and it just pushed me a little more to becoming a TRUE member of the HOG family I already am welcomed with open arms. Haven't been on in a long while but Im back. Missed all of yall and cant wait to come home and get some road time under my belt again. Been cagin it since May 2008 and its killin me. They have some 125cc bike here that 5 grown men will ride around on. I keep forgetting to snap pics but I will next time just for you guys.

Now, I am looking at customizing a FLSTF any year from 2000-07. Im talking everything from the ground up just completely changed but I love the Fatboy look and feel on some things and the sound can't be matched no matter what! Would it be better to spend half the money and get a salvaged or get a used and not worry about frame damage or anything else? Wanting to: rake forks a little bit, 200-240 rear tire, custom rear fender, flatten out the bottom of the gas can, fwd controls, drag bars, upgrade engine and pipes, and a slick seat almost like the street glide.

Also can't decide whether I want a TC88 or TC96 engine... I know 96 has 6 gears but not sure and cant find reason better than to have either one more than the other. This is gonna be build up by christmas 2010 for the toy run.

Also... I want it completely black... no chrome. Do I just get engine parts to replace chrome parts on engine or can I get a black one?

But ya'll let me know what ya'll think. And any suggestions will help.

BubbaJR

Yeah I know... I was just lookin to get some insight on whether to buy used or salvaged, and which one people prefer... 88 or 96.

Ill be looking forward to the package. Main thing I like in the package is Easy riders mags, pics, letters, twizzlers, sour patch kids, swedish fish, stuff like that. We have a community pile so if I wont eat some candy it goes to the guys. But you should know me... Ill eat just about anything.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.

I will say one thing on this Brent, I would've preferred the 96, 6 - speed ( started making them the year fater I bought mine). Can't tell you how many times I've tried to shift my 5 speed '88' when it was already in 5th the 6th gear would be awesome. Will get Sherrie on the package, we have most of that in there, lot's of mags, Fish, Crackers etc... but will get the rest for ya soon!

I love my 88. I hear the 96's have a little trouble with the Texas heat. Can't be too bad, cause that is all you can buy now.

I am with FB05. I would love 6th gear once in a while.

i'm with george, i'd rather have the 88 because of the reputation the 96 has with heat issue's.
i also think i'd be looking used instead of salvage unless you can really tell if it's had frame damage or not. i dont think there is a place around here that could straighten a frame good enough for me to trust it.

YEAH! All the bikers I have talked to over here say they always look for 6th gear but since it doesnt have near as many miles on the engine as the 88... Kinda up in the air for debate. I would love the 88 for the power, but when I go cruising with you guys, I may want that extra gear.

MLC... good point. Not sure if I would be able to find a frame not bent and if it could be straightened out to the T!

Mike...Ya got it nailed on the package, thats all any of us need over here: a few snacks, mags, and some love from home! Oh and tell all the girls and the boy i said hi.

George.... Yeah I will stay safe and thanks for the thoughts! The Texas heat is monstrous but hopefully everyone can help me out with some more insight on the 88 or 96 issue.

Everywhere I look online it's a dead even debate so just not sure. HELP!!!
