Ya'll might want to double-check ya got everything "legal" on your bikes

Not to mention Arlington kicked off their DWI campaign last week also *sigh*

Suds/ Butterfly - made a couple of phone calls:

After reading about the Tickets for No Helmet Alert - did a little searching and discovered the following:

Arlington, Texas - I was informed that Chief David Pugh has initiated a crackdown on riders with out helmets. This information was provided by an unidentified person that answered the phone at the Police Headquarters.

When I asked to speak with Chief Pugh, was informed he was not in. However I was transferred to an Officer Brown that stated there was a crackdown on motorcyclist without helmets. Further more Officer Brown stated that they "were only stopping for probable cause - like a traffic violation" {yeah .. right :evil: }

Called Fort Worth - got answering machine directing to call back on Monday.

Called Hewitt Police - lady answer the phone instructed me to contact the Public Affairs office on Monday.

The reason Fort Worth is included in this group is I have heard from different sources of motorcyclists being ticketed in the Fort Worth area for not wearing helmets.

What are the requirements to ride with no helmet? Health insurance and MSF, or something like that?

Effective September 1, 1997, persons at least 21 years old are exempt from wearing a motorcycle helmet if they:

* have successfully completed a motorcycle safety course, or
* are covered by a health insurance plan providing the person with at least $10,000 in medical benefits for injuries incurred as a result of an accident while operating or riding upon a motorcycle.

So if you have your MSF card with you & your company or whatever insurance card with you - you "should" be legal.

-- its not right they are stopping 'em at all really. Just a friggin excuse. But they were doing it off & on last year. Knew several folks that got a ticket even with all their shit on 'em & still had to go have it dismissed in person ... grrrr

What gets me is that the fuckers CANT SEE the GD sticker on your plate to begin with. Just like they pull folks over to ensure your fuckin helmet is DOT certified. Like that shit matters at 75mph
