Default Beating the heat New Mexico style

i had a 4 day weekend and decided to do something different this time to beat the summer heat. i rode up to chama, nm this weekend and did the tourist thing on the Cumbres and Toltec train. it is an old coal fired steam locomotive that travels back and forth across the colorado and new mexico border over a couple high passes. most of the ride is back in where there are no roads so it's really scenic and relaxing. it's a 6 1/2 hour ride up over a couple 10/11k feet passes with 11 border crossings between the two states. lunch is provided near the top of one of the passes in a large lunch room they built up there. then there is a free shuttle back to the original staion in chama.
