Default 2007 Myrtle Beach Bike Week Statistics

Quote:
About 325,000 people flocked to the beach from May 11 through Sunday, said Gary Loftus, director of the Center for Economic and Community Development at Coastal Carolina University's Clay Brittain Jr. Center for Resort Tourism.

While attendance remained about the same for the spring rally, the number of biker deaths dropped this year, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Three people, including Myrtle Beach residents James Bragg and Donny Macklen, died in motorcycle-related crashes during the spring rally. Friends and family of Bragg, known as "Slab," will remember him in a memorial at 6 p.m. today in Socastee.

Horry County officials reported 139 motorcycle crashes in the past week.

Last year, there were 132 crashes with eight fatalities, Bourcier said.

County police issued 828 biker-related citations during the spring rally, Bourcier said. At least 496 citations were issued for speeding.

Myrtle Beach police said there were 1,625 summons written during the spring rally, police said. At least 955 summons were written for traffic violations.

At least 1,023 people were arrested or cited by Myrtle Beach Police during the spring rally, according to statistics released Monday by the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

The bike-related news wasn't all about noise and crowds, according to local officials.

The Grand Strand's hotel occupancy rate for the week held steady at around 87 percent during the spring rally.
Not bad considering all that was there! Glad to see less people died.

Good post Squirrel, I've always wanted to know if someone kept these stats.

However, can't help but look at the 139 crashes number and know personally what one of them was.

All in all, it was a great week, even with the mishaps.

sucks being one of the stats----David is not doing too bad though, although still on crutches. Our estimates are done now, just waiting for the insurance money to come in.
