Are they welcome??
While this site is not yet as big as others, nor has it had too many specific 'newbie' questions, I have seen, more & more, other sites seem to have become very jaded whenever a new rider asks a question that has been asked & answered Hundreds of times before... the responses are sarcastic, biting & although some try to answer the question properly, it somehow gives the impression that the person is an idiot because they asked "that" question again... & why didn't they look it up on the site first before taking our time.. You know.. the .. do you wave... threads The, what oil is best....? what helmet is better...? what gear is right...? & so on... Was just thinking, that I've never seen speciofic questions like that as a sticky, for easy reference, or as specific parts of a category... Thought it might save newbie's time, & other's patience... K, I'll go back to making dinner now..lol |

Sounds great....I just made an announcement in the Hawg Trough.....check it out and see what you think. I posted it as an announcement so that it is at the top of the forum. But I was also thinking that maybe there should be something reiterating this on the home page. Just a thought!

Well, just another thought out here.
Yeah, people run the "best oil for my bike" question a million times on other sites. The search function is limited, on big sites you'll some up with a hundred or so posts, especially if some member has like "AMSoil" in their signature. To me the question is valid no matter how many times it's asked. Plus, the way things change, what was the best oil yesterday may not be the best oil today. I sort of like having topics re-appear time after time. I think it offers value. What I would be worried about with regards to stickys is that we get so many out there, the "sticky" begins to lose it's value. |

My concern was Not seeing the sarcastic crap worm it's way here with the smartass comments etc that most have us have seen elsewhere...
yes, I realize there is always the 'if you don't like it don't look' option, but as well we know, there are Always one or more, willing to shoot off their mouths... For what it's worth, this is the one site I actually feel comfortable in Asking the dumbfck questions that consistantly arise in my head...lol I'd just hate to see that spoiled somewhere down the line... |

Very good thought Calli.....I can see both sides......Mungo has a very good point, but so do you!! And you know, some people will never use the search engine to look for an answer, right now the site is not that large, so stickys on those threads would be great, but as the site grows, there would more than likely be to many sticky posts, and they would loose their value as Mungo stated.
But I still think that we should have something on the home page that would recommend using the search engine, even if it is not used that often. The rules for Hawg Zone say that you should search for answers before asking them, but how many newbies actually read all of the rules? If we had something on the home page, they would be more than likely to see it and maybe actually read it!!
