Default a different kind of fun

janet bought me a ccw class for my birthday and it's coming up soon so i thought i might go see if my eyesight is still good enough to get it done. i decided i would go ahead and get both revolver and semiauto qualified. the guy at the range convinced me to go 45acp for both so i rented a kimber 1911 and a ruger blackhawk. rumor has it that you have to shoot 25 rounds and be able to hit inside a 12"x18" target at 9 feet and 21 feet. i havent shot a pistol in 20-25 years but i'm proud to say i got it done. the ruger blackhawk was awsome! i managed a 6 inch group at 9 feet and at 21 feet. the kimber 1911 needs a little work but i was able to shot about a 4 inch group at 7 feet but barely able to keep it in the box at 21 feet. oh well, it's good enough to qualify so i was damn proud of myself after 25 years. i had forgotten how much i used to enjoy shooting.

Awesome Don.

My Dad is taking his CCW class tomorrow. He's down to a .380 or a 9mm choice, but I believe he plans on qualifying with both as well. His email to me sounded pretty happy that he shot 50 rounds at 30 & 40ft; hit the target everytime, 3 bullseyes & almost all the rest were in rings 2 or 3. Said he surprised himself for not having shot a pistol in 30yrs

Said he also learned the difference between revolver & auto action by not reading the instructions to keep both thumbs on the same side of the pistol. After a bandaid he finished the rounds

i dont know how the texas ccw works but here you want to qualify with the biggest thing you can. the new mexico ccw will let you carry anything up to the caliber you qualified with. if you qual with a 38/380 dont get caught with anything bigger or you go to jail. i dont think i'd ever carry a 45 semi or a 44 mag revolver but i'd like to that option open without having to requalify.

we had a lady at the range today learn that same lesson. she stuck a bandaid on it and continued on like all she did was chip a nail. next thing you know she's plunking down her credit card for a brand new glock. kind of inspiring.

i havent settled on a carry yet but the new sig sauer p250 is the front runner. it's a modular pistol that lets you chose between 4 calibers and 3 sizes with only 1 serial number. interesting idea behind it.

I was under the assumption that in Texas if you qualify with a revolver, you can only carry a revolver, but if you qualify with an auto, you can carry either?
Anyone know for sure?
