Thats a crying shame
I knew something would be done with it .. but not a damn 'outlet' mall.~~~~~ IRVING ― In the summer of 2009, Texas Stadium will be torn down. In its place, and in the surrounding areas, the City of Irving hopes to build residential communities, a park, and just announced - a new outlet mall. "There's a million cars a day that travel past this stadium," said Irving Mayor Herbert Gears. Apparently, that's reason enough for one of the nation's largest outlet centers to set up shop in the area. "It's a very important piece to begin this 400-acre process with this large regional, retail facility," Gears said. It's also the first formal announcement for an area that's struggled to find its identity since the Dallas Cowboys agreed to leave. Tuesday Morning - Tanger Factory Outlet Centers will let North Texans know its plan to build an outdoor outlet facility on the land just north of Highway 114 and west of Loop 12. The land was previously owned by the University of Dallas. "It surprises me because I thought they were gonna expand the university over there," UD student David Okun told CBS 11 News. "I knew that UD was maybe trying to get a little more commercial, but I don't know about an outlet mall over there." The university wanted the location to be chosen as the site for the George W. Bush presidential library… Southern Methodist University was awarded the project. UD has since sold the property and Tanger is moving ahead with the outlet mall. The ides of having an outlet mall on the site is one student Andrea Bascom says she can get used to. "It would be nice if it were kinda nicer places. I don't need designer shops or anything, but maybe not a Wal-Mart… somewhere in between." Tanger will announce Tuesday morning which stores will be in the outlet center. The company has outlet centers in San Marcos and Terrell. |

I guess it's better than a housing project

I agree at least it aint a housing project .. but Christ the traffic is bad enough on both major highways on either side of it. Now ya wont be able to use 'em at all  At least you "knew" when the Cowboys were playing to stay out of the area.
They are moving to Arlington Curley. A new gazillion dollar stadium thats opening in 2009

Arlington that's ok ... Even though im not a sports fan I was worried the were going out of state as so many have.....
I'm not familiar with the DFW area to know where they are and going to but but im sure you are right about the traffic...Thats most of the reason Linda and I don't get over that way much.... I don't want to get squashed, I got somethings left I wanna do.... Curley
