Default Jay Allen Breaks A New Bonneville Land Speed Record

After entertaining most of you all year long in his many Broken Spoke Saloons, Jay Allen loves to head to Bonneville to break some World Land Speed Records. Last week I met Jay on the Salts of Utah, avidly looking for some shade between 2 runs and telling me about the progress he was making with his 2 bikes on the different tracks of Bonneville.

As a matter of fact Jay goes on the track as much as he can during the the Bub Speed Trials Week, probably on the starting line more than most other racers. Jay set a new Land Speed Record in the MPF Class (orange bike) at 164.418 mph (first run) and 170.135 mph (return run) for an average LSR World Record of 167.2765 mph (breaking the former record held by Valerie Thompson on her Wink Eller tuned-up racing bike). Not satisfied with only one, Jay also went for another World Record running in the 3000cc APS-PF class on his 2005 S&S 124 cubic inch, 6-speed Baker out of the box transmission (white bike). Jay ran the 1st pass at 183.880 mph and a 2nd pass at $178.617 mph but unfortunately got a blown tire at the time light, just missing the official record, and got a bent wheel and…a sprung foot. At the time I write this, our idustry” Chief Entertaining Officer” is back at his Arizona quarters treating his big swollen purple foot. He just told me over the phone that next year he wants and will break the 200 mph barrier! Congrats again, Jay.
