Default advice on rebuild

was talking with Rammedic the other day and he got me to thinking...lol
anyway here's the deal -

fxdwgi with 52,000 miles. current config -- TC 88a, s&s 510 g's, screamin' eagle breather, D&D Fatcat 2:1, PCIII. Been thinking about bumping up to a 95 ci or bigger. any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated. I want to maintain reliability but also get more neck jerking torque...lol . what all would be involved? I was looking at the S&S kits, but there are lots of variations and I am clueless. thanks in advance

will have a shop do this for me but would like to know what to tell them in terms of parts etc.

Default Re: advice on rebuild

I had a 95" SE kit with high top pistons, SE heads that I sent out to be flowed for $400, a set of S&S 570G cams, Barnett clutch and Rinehart True Duals on it that made 110HP, 110 pounds of torque and was bullet proof.

I racked up a lot of miles on that bike and Ram will tell you it was a very nice build. The engine ended up in my uncle's bike and he beat the shit out of it too with no problems.

You can pick up the SE big bore kits and heads for a song and a dance from HD dealers these days - especially those who are hurting for sales.

With 52000 miles you may want to think about crank bearings before putting additional stress on them.

Good luck with your build.

Cheers,

Speed

Default any advice welcomed

I have a 2006 Screamin Eagle Ultra with 50K miles and just experienced cam chain tensioner failure that wiped out cams, lifters and dropped metal in bottom end. I am putting in a new flywheel, crank, timken bearings, cams lifters valves, basically a total rebuild. I have the stock Screaming Eagle 103 heads and would like to bump up the compression to about 10.2-10.5 to take advantage of cam performance. Any suggestions on where to find forged flat top pistons that will fit these heads. I don't have the funds to go a total head flow job so I'll have to use what I have. Bike has a SE air cleaner, PC III, and Rinehart 2-1 exhaust. My goal is 110 torque, not really worried about HP as I don't normally ride hard enough to get peak HP. I'm going to stick with the stock tensioner setup so any cam recommendations would be welcomed. I an thinking se 211's. I had 257's in the bike but it came on way too late. I'd like the torque in the 2000 - 4500 range.
Thanks

I would recomend at least upgrading to the hydraulic tensioner set up or going to gear driven cams. If you don't you will be into the same mess all over again and since your into it, now would be the time.

Just finished the rebuild. Went with SE211's, some primo porting and polishing of the heads and hydraulic tensioners. Cometic head gasket .030 along with new HD pistons .010 over. Stayed with the Rinehart 2/1 exhaust. Dyno'd yesterday at 103.4 HP and 112 torque. Should move my fat arse along pretty well I figure.
