Default Making a better pipe.

The problem with going big on the cubes is finding a pipe that realy works. Many of you know that my bike is a 124" fully built motor. This is not a write up on the motor, but rather the restrictions of pipes and my solution to fix.

First off. Bob at RB racing claims to make a pipe that works for my application. I have one of his pipes for a smaller build on my bike at this time. In fact, the pipe will be in the Houston area soon. JW has a need for it in the very near future.

Second Bob at RBR is hard to deal with, and is unwilling to work with new designs thought up by people that are not part of his 200 mph salt flat clique. Fuck that guy.

I have a new idea.
The plan is a custom merge collector and tail pipe meg with a reverse meg. The people that made the collector recommend a 2" primary header or at least a stepped header of 1-7/8" to 2" before thier collector. The problem with thier collector is........It's gonna be real frigging loud. So, I came up with a silencer idea that will not restrict flow by any means. I have spoken with the dudes that made both components, and neither has ever made or heard of a system like this. Unless you run 500+ thier company's are not willing to do the R&D. I am, and will be doing it next week.

That's all I want to share at this time. I will be adding more info. Good or bad in the near future.
Who knows, It might just be the better mouse trap. Fingers crossed.

Cheers. :???:

<EDIT> Still can't spell fer shit, but I fixed it.

Good Luck on that R&D Softail. Sounds really cool! Looking forward to hearing how it works out.

Time for some pics before I start chopping it all up.

Tonight after work, I made the silencer baffle. You will notice it is in the shape of the main megaphone that follows the collector. I tried to get a shot of the inside of the collector, but the detail is hard to see.
Tommorow the fabrication will be done and I will have more shotz of the process.
I can't dyno it for a week or so. I just found out today that my dyno bud had a near fatal bike wreck in September. They had to air lift him to the nearest trauma center for a spleenectamy and other bad stuff. He was on his way out I guess, but he made it to ride another day. Good thing.

I will be planning on showing before and after dyno sheets. You can hold me to it.

<EDIT> Forgot the pics.

The guts of the unit.

While the baffle is based on what has worked in other designs in the past, the merge collector, meg, header length, size and steps, is all designed from proprietary software that uses your exact engine specs. This is a one of a kind system designed for my motor.
I have hopes for a design that will work well with general high comp builds in the 103"-131" range. We shall see.

Softail - GREAT STUFF!

There's a ton of "been there done that" sitting on a shelf somewhere. It's all good, but it really fascinates me to see someone design and build something of their own.

Sorry to hear about the dyno guy. Hope he's recovering well.

When you get he dyno sheets, give us some information. I don't have a 124" engine, but I'm definitely interested in how the design comes out.

Can you get a picture of the S@S gutz? I have not seen a silencer that is in the shape of a megaphone. The only ones I have seen are straight not tapered or cone shaped. The shape of this one is what is so desired by me for this design to work properly.

Hey Mungo, I am planning on picking a good design that works well for most 103"-131" with a maybe on the 88"-96" and 74"-80". These future designs will be made if this one works for my machine. The plan is to have a pipe that works real good for most bolt on apps , but not perfect for all. If a person wants perfect for their app, then they will need to provide all their motor specs, and I will be building them a custom one off like the one I am building for me.

With any luck, this could become part of my retirement diversification of income planz.

Very nice work John. I'm anxious to see how it turns out. What degree is the merge? I know you told me before but I have had quite a few tonight. If you need any help mass producing, I have a nice tig rig with nothing better to do.

If you only knew how jealous I was. Just knowing what to do to design a muffler. Or the ability to actually make something like that.

Ditto what Mungo said!! Having that knowledge and skill is awsome.

I am in search of that "Retirement" deal too.

I can market and sell it!!!! Speedy may have to find us some hotties at Bike Week to help the display photos!!
