On the eve of the Afghan presidential election, militants unleashed a deadly wave of violence, killing election workers and leaving six U.S. soldiers dead.
Authorities in Afghanistan dealt with attacks on police officers, electoral infrastructure and a Kabul bank, only hours before the vote.
Two U.S. soldiers were killed by gunfire in the south, the military said, and a third was killed in an unspecified hostile attack. Two others died in a roadside bomb attack, and another died of non-combat injuries.
