Default Vietnam veterans pause to remember

Vietnam Veterans’ Day started in spectacular fashion yesterday as an aircrew from HMAS Albatross 723 Squadron landed their Agusta Westland A109E helicopter behind the Batemans Bay Vietnam memorial.

Members of the Federal chapter of the Vietnam Veterans’ Motorcycle Club joined the public as they remembered the battle of Long Tan and those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Hundreds of people attended and the faces of veterans remained focused, but some looked to recount memories of a war 40 years ago.

Nurse Di Badcock volunteered for the medical staff over in Vietnam and served at the First Australian Field Hospital at Vung Tau.
