Default Dallas officer arrested .. Again .. on DWI

I'm gonna go out on a limb here & guess that I, as an ordinary citizen, would not be given the leeway of bonding out after 2 in a 3 month span ...

A veteran Dallas police officer was arrested early Sunday, for the second time in three months, on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Senior Cpl. Billy Ailey was stopped about 3:30 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 30 near State Highway 360 and refused a breath test, an Arlington police spokesman said. Authorities got a warrant and took a blood sample at a hospital. Cpl. Ailey was later released on bond.

Dallas police said he is on administrative leave pending an internal-affairs investigation. Cpl. Ailey is assigned to the police communications division and has been with the department since January 1985. Cedar Hill police arrested him on a DWI charge in December.

I don't understand why he was allowed to continue as a LEO after his first arrest unless he hasn't been convicted yet.
I work for a state entity (a river authority) and 1 DWI conviction and you are automatically terminated. No ifs, ands, or buts (or bond) about it!

Rarely a level playing field 'round here. I'm sure he had not been convicted, per se, of the 1st one yet .. but I cant help thinking "that aint his 1st rodeo" I'm sure he's just not been caught on many more.

Even with your work friends - you know who's a social drinker, moderate drinker & you damn well know the ones who can drink you all under the table at the drop of a hat. His "friends" after that many years are likely predominately LEOs too. You would think {or hope} his friends would have called him on it, or taken it higher up, long before 2 back to back DWIs .. for the sake of both departmental integrity - not to mention the safety of the rest of the citizens on the roadways.
