Heads up for all you young'uns

(AP) -- Americans born after Dec. 1, 1964, will have to get more secure driver's licenses in the next six years under ambitious post-9/11 security rules to be unveiled Friday by federal officials.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff says the REAL ID program will be inexpensive and reasonable.

The Homeland Security Department has spent years crafting the final regulations for the REAL ID Act, a law designed to make it harder for terrorists, illegal immigrants and con artists to get government-issued identification. The effort once envisioned to take effect in 2008 has been pushed back in the hopes of winning over skeptical state officials.

i just read about that. i'm going to let that sink in a little before i form an opinion but i'm thinking it's not something i think i'm going to like because it's another small lose of freedom for homeland secruity sake.

I read it but I dont really understand it .. So what I cant get on an airplane without a Real Id ? Who cares I dont fly anyways ...

But you do work in telco & are likely under some form of OSHA requirements for safety. Those are both "federally" governed.

Effective December 1, 2014, {and 2017 for the rest of us} Federal agencies will refuse to accept non-REAL ID-compliant drivers' licenses from all persons born before December 1, 1964 (i.e. under the age of fifty)

So as long as you never need:

Social Security
Unemployment
Telco {FCC} Work
OSHA regulated work
Medicare
Medicaid
Post Office Services
Flying on a commercial aircraft
Entry [for camping] into National Parks
Driving on a highway anywhere or
Filing your taxes

You'll be just fine

I haven't really understood what this ID was meant for, or what they assholes think they are accomplishing by having it, except more red-tape, more ways to track US??
