Default Canadian Dollar

Quote:
The Canadian dollar has reached parity with the U.S. dollar for the first time since 1976. They are now equal in value. The euro also soared to its highest-ever level against the dollar, trading above $1.40 for the first time since the currency was introduced in 1999.

It's been a long time, I remember when the Canadian dollar was worth more. So I wonder what happens now, the same dollar for all of North America?

So do I. When I was a kid we went to Daytona every year for Christmas to visit my grand parents who had a condo there. I remember when the Canadian dollar was worth close to $1.10 U.S. in those days.

Doubtful. There are fundamental differences in how Canada, the U.S. and Mexico all manage their economies.

Previous to GWB there was consideration in some circles to adopt a unified currency, but the chances of that happening now are incredibly slim. I seldom weigh in on political issues, but to be quite frank Bush has driven the U.S. economy into the ground and done tremendous damage to the international reputation of the country through his misguided policies - both domestic and international.

I can see this one headed for the pig pen.

I disagree with pretty much everything you said SM. The Dow has recovered from 9-11, and is near record highs, the economy is moving along fine, unemployment is at just over 4%. Anyone in America that wants to work, can work. I do agree with what people think of America, but I personally don't give a fuck what Non-Americans think of me/US.

What are you basing your theory of economy being run into the ground on? As for our currency I don't want a Euro, I like the Dollar, I don't want the metric system, I don't want to be like the libs want us.....just like everyone else, and totally dependent on our Government for everything, as in Government sponsored Health Care. The Government has proven time, and again it can't run any program better than the free-enterprise system can. Do any of you want the same people that are in charge of The IRS, The Mail, The Passports, or Social Security telling you what operation you can have, or not have, and when????? I don't

The housing market has collapsed. The USD is in the process of collapsing against other major currencies. Bad debt ratio being held by lending institutions is at a record high.

Foreign investors hold close to 50% of U.S. debt and China holds the lion's portion of that debt. If they called in that debt right now it would bankrupt the U.S. bond system immediately.

However, even worse is that the federal government is running a huge deficit year over year over year, which requires additional bonds to be issued and people aren't buying them because the potential return is small, but the risk is very real and very large.

Also, have a look at GDP growth and then look at GDP growth per capita for the latest figures, which are CY2006. The U.S. sits at 143 and 136 on a global scale.

It's no wonder Bush's approval ratings have dipped under 20% this year. Pointing out Bush's flaws does not equate to an indictment of the U.S. - the rest of the world wants the U.S. to be as successful as possible with the exception of the middle east.

...........and let's not forget the alternative, the Liberals. They have been in control of both Branches of our Government now for several months, they are the one's that have the real power, and what bills have they passed, NONE! What have they done to help our economy 0, all they have done is call one of our most decorated Generals basically a Liar, aka Billary, and berate him, and our troops. In a Vote today forced by our Great Senator from Texas John Cornyn, the Senate was allowed to voice opposition to the ad ran in the NY Times by Moveon.org, calling General Petraeus, General Betray-US...............and 25 Liberals including Billary, Read, Karry, etc............ voted that the ad was fine with them!!!
I will always vote for the candidate that supports our TROOPS, they are more important to me than an economy that always fluctuates NO MATTER WHO THE PREZ IS! and anyone who thinks the President controls the economy is not paying much attention.

I don't want to be takin wrong on this, I have not been a huge Bush fan lately. I think he has grown the Government, which Conservatives aren't supposed to do, he has cowerd down to Libs way too much, he was ABSOLUTLEY DEAD WRONG on Immigration, and reamins clueless on it to this day  and he isn't a very good public speaker at all, but he has done what he has thought was best for this Country, and for that I won't fault him.... No to mention what this nation would look like now had Gore been elected, and was in power during 9-11......
I'm gonna stop now, I'm so fucking mad I can't see straight

Not the 1st time in our History this has happened, nor the last........how is it Bush's fault?

Foreign investors hold close to 50% of U.S. debt and China holds the lion's portion of that debt. If they called in that debt right now it would bankrupt the U.S. bond system immediately.

This isn't new! it's been this way for years, and that doesn't worry me much. If they-China were to call in that debt, they're Bonds would be worthless

However, even worse is that the federal government is running a huge deficit year over year over year, which requires additional bonds to be issued and people aren't buying them because the potential return is small, but the risk is very real and very large.

I don't remember that last time we had a balanced budget, again not new, or put forth because of Bush

Also, have a look at GDP growth and then look at GDP growth per capita for the latest figures, which are CY2006. The U.S. sits at 143 and 136 on a global scale.

The US Congress has an approval rating of 11%, so Bush is way ahead of the curve there
