Default Poker Rides How To?

Has anyone organized a fund raiser ride for a private cause? A very difficult situation has just fallen close to home for me. My brothers wife is only 40 years old. She will undergo a 5 or 6 vessel by pass surgery with aortic valve replacement on Tuesday. I want to do anything I can to help my family out. There will be astronomical medical bills involved so I wondered about a poker ride? We live in a small community where my brother is well respected as a hard working blue collar man. I've never been on a poker ride so my personal experience level is limited. I'm just racking my brain to think of what I can do to help.

If any of you have been involved in managing, organizing, or assisting with one of these types of rides I would appreciate any advice you could share. Would it be inappropriate to organize a ride for this type of cause? I know there are many noble and needed causes that people ride for. Is this to small of a cause??? So many questions with so few answers. If any of you can add any information I would be very appreciative.

Thanks for reading,
Mom's

I really wish your Sister-in-law all the best Moms, sorry to hear of this
You can do Poker Runs for most anything, even just plain fun, so I see no problem in that, If folks don't want to go, no one is forcing them. I have never set one up though, sorry. All the best, she will be in our thoughts, and prayers

Depending on how you set it up. # years ago set A ride up for a fellow rider killed by a senial old cager.....
You may need an insurance waiver depending on ur state laws
get a route in ur head 3-4 hrs with 3 stops to get a card
on ur route make sure there are gas n food where people can stop.
U may want road captains to lead differant groups
also people who know the area may just want a map and ride at there own pace
start N stop location(s) all needed facilities
some good prizes , lots of advertising
Rain date ......
We had a gauranteed prize list of 220 items with a mini chopper value $1000.00 cdn as ggrand prize second prize was a totem pole value $700.oo 3rd prize was 2 nights of dirty loven at a better hotel with grub
$value $ 600.00
there was also 50/50 tickets and food and beverage tickets (booze) we managed to raise a little over $ 7000.00
rain date?????
lots of support most likely will need at least a minimum of 16 support staff .......
Worst hand prize male ... joke prize
worst hand female ...... was a joke prize
this also took us 5-6 months of planning

Good luck & all the best to your family

Never been a part of organizing one, but I just wanted to say that your brother will be in my prayers along with his entire family, including you!

Good Luck Mom and I hope the run is a huge success!

Ram called me and told me about this, so very sad indeed. Prayers will be forthcoming. Mom's, Wrecker is probably the most knowledgeable about this kind of thing. If I can help please let me know.

Very sorry to hear about your sister-in-law Moms. You will all be in my prayers for a smooth recovery.

I think that is a perfect reason to host a poker run. I'm sure Rex will have a lot of great info on getting one together & RR has provided a great baseline of info too. Good luck!

Thank you all for your kind wishes and input. Wrecker I'll be giving you a call when I'm off work again. I just got in now and we are heading back to Chattanooga to the Hospital. I'll be checking in when I can.
