I just enabled a third party service called Akismet that filters posts for SPAM. I use it on quite a few other sites I manage and it works well. Hopefully it will solve our recent problems with spammers since we have risen in the search engine rankings.

So far it seems to be working. We had a rash of SPAM messages for a few days that I manually deleted, but I haven't seen anything since we put Akisment in place.

There were actually 4, I reported them, banned tham permanately, deleted their posts.

Good job. I'll add the next level of SPAM protection over the weekend, which will probably require a captcha to be solved each time everybody logs in to deter the bots.

Apparently getting more popular on Google has its downsides.

I will be working on the site today and will put some more measures in place. The problem is that the more anti-spam protection I put in place the more steps it will take people to join the site and to make posts.
