Default These are the Days of our Lives

Got to work last night and opened my email to find the following ..
=============

This morning Verizon issued the following news release:

In a move that will further accelerate the company’s focus on wireless, broadband and global IP, Verizon Communications Inc. today announced plans to divest its local wireline operations serving residential and small-business customers in predominantly rural areas in 14 states and that these operations will be acquired by Frontier Communications.

The transaction (((BUYOUT))) is expected to strengthen Frontier’s position as a premier rural communications provider and return a total value of $8.6 billion to Verizon and its shareholders, as Verizon continues to transform its growth profile and asset base around the fastest-growing parts of its business: wireless, fiber-based wireline (FiOS) and global IP (Internet protocol) networks.

Details of the Acquired Operations

The operations Frontier will acquire include all of Verizon’s local wireline operating territories in Arizona, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin. In addition, the transaction will include a small number of Verizon’s exchanges in California, including those bordering Arizona, Nevada and Oregon.

The companies seek to complete the transaction in approximately 12 months. It requires approval from Frontier shareholders, certain regulatory approvals and satisfaction of other customary closing conditions, including the obtaining of financing.

So basically Im almost certain to be unemployed from Verizon in 12 months or less. I knew something was up when our regional manager just happened to show up last week and have a pep talk with my group. The last time he showed up a layoff occurred as well.

Ahh well , things happen for a reason and Im glad I got into my Herbalife venture when I did. Honestly the only thing I'll miss from Verizon besides the paycheck will be the insurance. I havent payed any thing significant on dental and medical bills in over 10 years now.

Calgon take me away .........

Verizon has a lot more they didn't sell off. Hang in there and don't let them run you off. That is what a lot of these companies appear to be doing. My workload and everyone's where I work is to the point of abusive right now. Guess What? No one has any choice but to keep up the pace no matter what. If you lose what you make today, it may be a long long time before you can make that again.

So work twice as hard and be more determined than ever and you may just get lucky.

that is an honest fact. it took me 8 years to get back to what i was making in 1995 when i got laid off the first time. i expect it to take me that long again this time around. like george said, bust your ass and you might get lucky and survive it but get prepared for it just in case. so much of what you may go through over the next year is going to be out your control so do what ever it takes to stay on top of what you can control. getting out of debt has got to be a priority and then getting some savings started. most folks say put away 6 months expenses but i doubled that and i'm glad i did. being debt free gives me a lot more options than i had back in 1995.

Unfortunately they sold off 50% of the switches that the group I work in just happens to be monitoring. They are telling us that a work force reduction will most likely happen in 8 - 12 months. As I am 5 from the bottom on the senority ladder the signs are not good. Iv'e managed to hang around this place for 11 years if I make it till September so Im not gonna quit. That said , Iv'e managed to become pretty debt free at this point besides my house , my monthly bills , and my bike so I'll be ok for little while..

GO GO Herbalife ....

Bum deal Dave. Hopefully you will get lucky & as bad as I hate to say it .. force out some of that old ass weight at the top. Maybe they'll give packages to those 30+yr folks to get on out the door. Sometimes being low man on the pole pays off in a sell off. Will keep my fingers crossed for ya

It's been a looong ass week. We had to sign a petition on whether or not to go on strike on Monday and now I got to work tonight and got this email.. Shits NOT looking too good at this point ...

Verizon and CWA Agree to Extend Texas Contracts by 48 More Hours

Verizon and the Communications Workers of America did not reach an agreement following a 48-hour extension of the Texas labor contracts that expired at midnight on Aug.15. The parties have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to extend the
Texas contracts by an additional 48 hours until midnight on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
Associates covered by the contracts will continue to report for their regularly scheduled work assignments under the terms of the current contracts as efforts continue to achieve new labor contracts.
Verizon and the CWA began negotiations on July 7 on three Texas contracts, in place since August 2004, that cover approximately 3,200 Texas employees in Verizon Telecom and Verizon Services Operations.

What are you talking about George, the non-workers are the ones getting all the free shit(that we pay for). If it wasn't for the drain the non-workers are causing.........

Dave, I feel for ya brother. Sounds like a nightmare that doesn't seem to have an ending at the moment
