I saw Kiss when I was 14...it was my first concert and loved it. Now maybe not so much . I am a Metallica fan. Love there concert DVD they did with the philharmonic. The Black album still has got to be one of my favorites

Several students in my (old) school can sing U2 and Aerosmith songs but have never heard of the Stones - thought they all know who Johny Depp's father is in Pirates of the Caribbean - lol

If we're looking at bands that were relevent then and now, no list would be complete without Ozzy and Black Sabbath on it. One of my favorites back then and still one of my favorites.

I've gone to concerts since 1974 when I saw Deep Purple with Savoy Brown and Rick Derringer as the backup bands. It would be much easier to list the big groups I haven't seen.
