Re: 2007 5th Gear Whine Video
This is a byproduct of the way they cut the gears shadow. It's a slight longevity issue, but even more so an annoyance. Second, third, fourth and six gear are heli cut in one direction. This puts a tremendous amount of lateral pressure on the main shaft. First and fifth are straight cut, which doesn't exert lateral pressure, but results in a different/louder noise. They chose first and fifth to be straight cut because those are the two gears that are most frequently used.
HD should have learned from Baker - they went through this years ago. The latest Baker transmissions have every other tooth cut the opposite direction on every gear, which distributes the load more evenly. Their setup sounds better and will have a longer life.
