Default New project

Here is a new project I am working on in an attempt to make my cross country trip next month a little better. I am still not finished, need to mount the case and add the fenders, etc. You will get the idea. Anybody else here tug a small trailer with them on trips. I will post more pics when I can. Later

Cool project. I have never pulled one but checked into a couple of times. They tell me you never know they are back there. They also say to get the rotating hitch or something like that.

Hey Lane
I built a trailor for mine as well. I used the car top idea as well and built an aluminium frame to put it on. I also built a rack on the tongue to hold a cooler. If you do that just don't load the cooler to heavy, it puts a lot of weight on your rear tire and chews it up pretty quick. Make sure you load your cargo evenly. If you put it to far forward it will wear on your wheel and if it is to far back it will lift your ass end up when your going over bumps.
I installed a Bushtech hitch for mine which works very well. I pulled up their link but it looks like they may have changed the design.

Let me know if you have any other questions....

Thanks for the input Mark. I bought a MCHitch for mine. Not sure about the cooler rack as of yet. I am going to finish assembly first and go from there. If I do add one it will be for a small cooler. I figure I can always place a cooler inside the topper if necessary. How does your fuel economy respond when you are pulling your trailer?

Your fuel economy does drop but not to bad. Its been a while since I pulled it so I can't really say how bad. I had it with me when I met you and Tina for the first time at Chris's place. I usually load a small BBQ, lawn chair, tent, shade shelter, air mattress, spare tire, etc. etc. etc. when I head out.
I don't know if you will have room for a cooler inside since you will have a woman along You'll need room for the hair dryer and extra shoes...
Even if you don't use the cooler for refreshments you can carry extra gear in it until you hit your destination.
When I built mine I used a set of tork axells instead of leaf type springs. I usually keep the tires slightly soft to help smooth the ride. The only time you know its behind you is when you accelerate from a stop and when you stop. I had to break hard once with the trailor full and the cooler full, it wasn't pleasant but it was controlable. The weight trys to push you through so make sure you have good rubber and breaks. That being said you have to use extra caution in the rain.

Update:: I just got home from an 800 mile road trip last weekend. The little trailer is incredible, tracks straight, easy to pull, carried more shit than needed. lol I did notice you need a little more throttle on long hills. We had a serious head wind on the way home and a little extra throttle was needed there as well. I rode fairly hard, backroads, curvy roads, interstate 80 mph with no wobbles. Easy to pull. I should have done this a long time ago.

Looking Good, very stealthy looking. Did you paint the topper, if so what did you use?
