Default Front Tire Replacement

I have never replaced a front tire on a motorcycle. Are there any special tools needed and will the wheel need balancing once I finish the project?
Or, should I just take it to a dealer and not worry about it.

gk

I have not changed a tire myself. I know some guys do it themselves. The way I look at it you do need to get it balanced anyway so I just take the wheel off and take it to the dealer to do the job. It is a lot of pulling and if you have chrome wheels you can fuck them up quick with the spoons. Stock wheels will mar up quick as well. What type of rubber are you using?

That would be my next question I not sure what to put on the front. What do you recommend? Can I go with a bigger tire maybe a 90-90-21, I read that somewhere. I'm running a MH-90-21-M/C-54H for what it is worth with alot of dry rot crack around the bead area on the tire.. thx gk

Lots of people around hear run Avons and LUV them. I will probably go with them next time instead of the Dunlops. I'm not sure if you can upsize the front or not. Why would you want to?

i've got metzlers on my wide glide right now and i'm 99% sure thats what i put on front was a 90-90-21. i'll check here in a bit and get back to ya. whatever it is it is just a tad wider and it was the replacement recommendation for the metzler site.

I guess because I heard of others doing so and being satified with the filling the front area a bit more.

Cool, just curious. What ever you do get rid of those split skins soon.

i went and checked the tires to make sure my last comment was accurate and it was. i went with metzlers this time for economic reasons, i just couldnt afford the avon venom x's at the time. next time i change both i hope to try the avon's. the metzlers were a good upgrade over the dunlops and the avons are suppose to handle even better. i have to agree with BP, whatever you use just get rid of those cracked ones as soon as possible.
