Default Synthetic oil

So after reading the note on synthetic oil, what would be your brand of choice for the next oil change, if not HD itself?

I have used HD Syn III, Amsoil and Lucas in my twin cams and they are all good. I don't think there is such a thing as a low grade synthetic oil - I have never seen a four stroke engine melt down because of the oil brand. Two strokes are another matter.

if you go to the amsoil site it claims they reduce friction better than hd syn 3. truth or propaganda, dont know. the amsoil dealers around here want to sell you oil 5-10 cases at a time so i've been using the hd stuff and had no issue's.

Well from our experience I can tell you that we found that the Amsoil did drop temps by 10-15 degrees in our bikes. So now I am running Amsoil. 8)

I use Mobil 1 20w50 when I can find it.

None to be found in the West Kootenays.

HD syn is too freaking expensive.

An oil thread, I never thought we would see one on here LOL

Oil weather synthetic or dyno, needs to meet government standards before it hits the market....so pick your poison, it doesn't matter the brand....everything you read is all just marketing bullshit....at the end of the day weather you use Dyno or synthentic, just change based on the manual, or product guidelines and you will never have a problem.

Just an FYI HD doesn't produce oil, they buy another company's oil, and brand it HD.....buying HD anything is a waste of money in my humble opinion

I am using Amsoil in both our bikes with no ill effects so far. Join thier preferred customer program and order it by the case. I admit, I was reluctant to join, but even after shipping i am still saving $$ on oil by buying it this way. My .02

Not to mention that friggin convenience of just clicking on a web site when more is needed. Everything I own runs Amsoil. Crankcase oil, tranny fluid, differential gear oil, oil filters, etc... Not because I think it's the best, like Fubar said, every oil has to meet a certain grade. Just click, wait a couple of days and boom.

Awesome.

I run Syn 3 in all three holes with no issues. As Donny Peterson says synthetic reduces friction thus eliminating heat. I cannot speak for how much the temp dropped when I switched but I know by the heat under my thighs it was reduced. I have read claims of 20 deg. F. drop so about 10%. I feel it is worth the price to protect your investment.
Just changed mine out last night cause its snow'in like a MOFO. So she is in hibernation till the spring
