Default Need Advice on Warranty Coverage Expectations - Radio

We have a 2006 Ultra Classic with the built in Harmon Kardon Radio/CD/yada yada.

The warranty expires on 12/30/07.

The whole radio powered off twice in rain storms this year. When it dried back out (radio?? fuse panel??) everything came back on.

That coupled with the CD skipping more and more on even fairly smooth roads told me to take it in for a look before the warranty runs out. I originally thought this was old CD's but even some new ones do it.

I finally called the dealer where I have had it for almost two weeks now, to see if they were replacing the whole bike or what the hell was going on.

Basically they told me they can't recreate the power off or the skipping so no troubel found. I told them I understood but ...

1) I know it is true the radio really does both those things.
2) Warranty is out next month
3) So what is Harley going to do if the radio just quits on me or gets worse on skipping in February? He has yet to call me back.

What should I expect here? Should I raise hell until the radio is replaced? Is there a code word I can use that would give them justification to replace?

What say you experts?

Thanks for the help and assistance.

Tell them it skips at highway + speeds. Also skips on dirt roads. It never used to, so you better replace it. It was the best radio I ever owned and now it is crap. WTF?

I was thinking of buying the same unit for my other bike (cousin's bike for a gift etc) but now am not so sure. I think it must be a lemon cause all my friend's have this unit and mine is the only one that does this.

By the way, the code word is Velveeta.

Go to another dealer, ask them to look at it and mention that you buy X amount of service and goods per year and a new bike every X years. If they want your business they will fix the problem.

You guys are on the same track as me. I gave then a "Reputation to live up to" speech. I am awaiting the call to see if they live up to it now.

I have to admit I did not use the word "velvetta". I will work that into the conversation next time too.

If you don't replace the radio, I will spray you down with Velvetta and make you march in the gay pride parade. A drastic move, but one that may work.

Just tell them to open a work order for you with a 76160-06refurb.

It's dealers like these that are giving H-D a bad name. Do they even READ tech bulletins?

Thanks so much!!

This HD Dealer has BY FAR THE BEST people in it of any of the 8 or 9 in DFW, which makes it even sadder. I wouldn't take a bicycle to most of them.

I will let you know what happens.

I just talked to the Stealer!! After I gave them a reputation to live up to the other day, they ordered me a new radio and are replacing it.

I wish they had called me and I not have to call back in, but they are fixing me up nonetheless!!

I appreciate everyone's help and advice.

Hawg Zone wins another one!!

I hope that isn't a premature announcement.

Being as knowledgeable as possible, is advice I would give to everyone. Harley doesn't seem to "proactive" with any information or actions, but if you make them they will eventually do the right thing most of the time. Being educated on recalls and bulletins is an absolute must for Harley Owners.

Thanks Again!!!
