Default Tire Life

I was curious as to what kind of mileage you folks are getting out of your original Dunlops, my rear is looking like it will need replaced soon. Also thinking of going to Avons when I do. Can you run an Avon on the rear with the Dunlop on the front since the front tire looks good still?

I don't know the answer to the mismatched tire question but I do know be ware of the dunlop that "still looks good" they tend to look good but the rubber seems to harden. It gradually makes the front end feel like it's pushing through curves. (best way I know to describe it) I thought it was just me but then when I got new tires (front and rear) suddenly it felt right again no more pushing. I still had plenty of tread left but the rubber was very hard.

Moms is absolutely right (well done Tina). I can' recall what the recommendation is from Dunlop, but if I recall correctly if a tire is over two years old they suggest replacing it. The Dunlops tend to go especially hard over time.

If you are going to put Avons on you can get a front tire for just over a hundred bucks and it's well worth it. Also, be aware that you can squeeze an Avon 150 on the rear of your bike no problem. I can send you the part numbers if you want.

BP I got 10K out of my Dunlops. Moms is right they feel like they push you towards the outside of the corners. Trust me, spend the money and get the matching set of Avons! Then you will feel like you are being pulled into the middle of the corner.

16000 km on the rear. Front probably had another 5000km.

Swapped em both for Avons

Yes you can run mismatched, I have the Metzeler on the rear, but still have the Dunpop on the front, still seems fine. Sure it is better to have matched though

Yeah, but is your life worth risking when you don't have an optimal matched setup?

I would appreciate the model # of the Avons. Where did you get them so cheap? Are you sure the 150 will fit the rear without rubbing on the belt?
Thanks

I am just writing a feature article from the front page. As soon as I am done I will get them off my bike and post them here.

Cam's.

You betcha. I have enough room to fit my little finger between the belt and the sidewall. The belt guard is tighter, but still has an 1/8" clearance.
