Default Fuel guage accuracy?

ok, so the warning light comes on, guage reads -1/4 tank. I toss $10 in, now it shows 1/2 full. Bike sat all day yesterday.
Head out today, playing on the backroads.. light comes back on. I'm thinking no way no How have I used that much gas in only a couple three hours....worried a bit going to find a gas station, but no problem Total fill, right to the very top? $13.85. I still had 1/2 a bloody tank!!! What's with the fool guage? Is there a way to check it? Fix it? I'm hoping this is just a one-time glitch!
When I parked it, it was still showing a Very full tank.
( Least now I know, at present gas prices, my bike holds $23.85 worth! ...lol)

23.85 ????? Holy shit how much is gas up there in Canada ??

I top out at about $10.85 witha 5 gallon tank and its $2.89 a gallon here in Texas ...

I dont think those guages are calibrated too well either . Sometimes they will work and other times they dont . Easiest route is to replace it I bet ...

I have seen this with some of the gauges, check your connector under the left side of the tank and make sure the connection is clean and plugged in all the way. If it still persists then it has to be either a problem with the float needing to be adjusted in the tank or the gauge is off. The newer ones are all electric, my stock gauge read perfect, and my LED one reads fairly close to it.
But i have seen a lot of people who's gauges do read "off" in some increment.
Calli if the stock gauge keeps giving you trouble then I have a spare new stock gas gauge I will send ya. Keep us up to date on it.

Hey Calli one thing I do is reset my trip odometer when I fill up. I know that when I hit 240kms. I have about 3 litres of gas left in the tank.

Calli, squirel has given you the proper advice...but at the end of the day, the only REAL gauge you need is your clicks...don't worry so much about what the meter says....hell if you NEVER fix it...it won't change your miliage one bit....

I go by my trip odometer. I know when it's close and when it will be sucking wind by the odometer. I just reset every time I get gas. My gas gauge looks like I still have fuel left then it starts sputtering and I have to hit reserve. Makes me arss pucker! I just use odometer A for gas milage all the time. B for overall trip miles. Works just fine.

Thank you all.. I intend to ride this weekend, so will see what's doing. Was thinking to run it right out & watch the mileage...but somewhere still in cell phone range this time!

Once my gauge goes below half it drops like a stone. I always use the odometer. I am getting about 300 to 360 km on a tank depending on how aggressive I am on my RK.
