Default Ringing Rineharts

Somebody posted a thread with this topic in the old country way back when. I'm not sure what the person's resolution was, but I had the same thing happen to me yesterday. I had this crazy ringing sound coming from my left pipe that was subtle in the morning, but by the end of the day it sounded like the rear cylinder was going to rattle itself off the cases.

The cause of the problem was the short set screws used to hold the end caps in place. When you slide the end caps inside the pipe the baffle in turn slides inside a recess in the middle of the baffle. When the set screws are tightened from the outside to hold the end caps in place the tips of the screws touch the outside of the baffles and pinches them in place.

I recently put another set of end caps on that were covered under warranty and used the new set screws that were sent with them. Upon inspection they were a tad shorter than the last ones and were no longer pinching the baffles and therefore letting them rattle around inside the pipe.

Solution; use longer set screws for the end caps that put a little more side pressure on the baffles to hold them in place.

Hope that helps somebody else with Rineharts who ends up with the "ringing" issue.

Man the last ones went purple after one ride. If this next set goes purple I am going to get the chrome ones and they better be covered under warranty too. Have you seen the price of them?

That's in the U.S.. Convert to Canadian dollars, add shipping, taxes, import tariff, brokerage fees etc. and they are 200 clams Canadian each.

Hmm, check this out. Parts Direct has them for under 50 bucks USD.

That's the best price I have seen by a long shot.

Agreed, but you know what some companies are like when it comes to warranty items. The price is irrelevant to many of them if the P/N doesn't match.

Not bad, I googled "Rinehart Exhaust Chrome End Cap" and found a couple of other sites, lowest being $43.95

JP Cycles is twice the price of Parts Direct. Either Parts Direct screwed up the price, or JP Cycles is gouging people.
