Default What to do?

Here's the problem - I just noticed a nail in my rear tire and its about 100 km's to my preferred tire changing shop.

The tire still holds pressure, but if you take a srewdriver and push on the nail sideways, it will hiss ever so slightly - so I know it goes all the way through. There is no "head" on this either. It might have worn off, or maybe its not even a nail but a peice of wire or something.

Anyway, who thinks I should take the chance? For all I know, the nail may have been there for the last 2,000 km's, or I might have picked it up on the last ride. Its a very small nail, and I've only been paying close attention to the tread recently as the tire got to its last legs.

Otherwise, I'll have to either take it to my local Non-HD dealer or a Yamaha shop for the tire change - neither of whom are likely to know jack shit about a tuber.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,

IMHO, for whatever that is worth. I would put the bike on a lift and pull the wheel. Take the wheel to your tire guy by cage. Not worth the risk if you as me. My .02

Ram's got the safest option by far.

Or you can plug it. Either way, if you drive the bike with the nail in it or a plug, just exercise caution. I've got a buddy who's driven the past 3000 or more miles on a plugged rear tire. Well against my advice.

I agree with Ram and Mungo. Don't ride it the way it is. I have ridden on a plug for thousands of miles, so if you don't want to take the tire off yourself get a plug kit and drive carefully until the fire is replaced.

I'm confused here. Bructer called his tire a tuber. I didn't think you could plug a tubed tire?

As far as riding it that far goes, my life is more valuable than that. You get to make that choice yourself Bructer.

i would not run the tire no matter what by the time you pull it and put either a tube or a good boot patch for the few bucks more you might just as well put a new tire on

I just put a new front tire and tube on mine last month and picked up something in a parking lot at an ice house last weekend. Bitch was damn near flat this morning so I'm fixin' to put it on the lift and put a new tube in her. If I had a couple miles on it I would replace the tire too but I just don't see it happening right now.
