Default Front Tire Tread Question

Texas Red and I are about to embark on a 2,000 mile road trip. I have pretty much a new back tire. The front tire has about 3/32 inch/2.4 MM of tread left. This is clearly in the green on the tread gage.
On the tread gage.
Yellow starts at 2.5/32 or 2.0 MM
Red starts at 2/32 or 1.6 MM

I think it should be fine for a 2,000 mile trip.

If you are a subject matter expert or have experience in this area, do you agree with me or would you go ahead and change it before taking off?

I appreciate hearing what you have to say.

I feel like you have plenty of tread left, however you did not say how old the tire was.

I personally don't want to go on a long trip like you have planned with any thoughts about a tire. I guess what I am saying is, that I like to have "Peace of Mind". After all, we only have two (2) tires between our asses and the road... I prefer mine to be in top shape. Brakes and tires is an area that I personally refuse to take a chance on.. JMHO

That would be enough tread for me, especially for a front tire. Just be cautious if you were to hit rain. With that little tread, you won't be pushing the water aside as efficiently.

It seems to me a ride like that would justify new rubber anyway. I mean new tires just makes the ride that much better.

I just bought new front and rear tires for the Ultra before heading down to Daytona. Just pushing the bike backwards in a parking lot was so much easier. And the ride? Well, so much smoother. Especially over that distance.

I appreciate the feedback. The tire is about 15 months old. I don't normally push them and don't take huge chances. I just think they will be fine. Sounds like both of you think the same thing that they should be fine. If I go on the way safe side I lose 2K miles on the next front tire. I do have a one fairly free day on vacation with little milage planned. That is the day we plan to hit Pig Trail Harley Davidson. I will check it again there and have them throw one on if I am more worried then.

Sounds lke the three of us are on the same page though.
1) Should be fine
2) Don't take chances

If it were a 3K trip like last year I would get it on and get an new tire.

This reminds me though that I probably ought to go ahead and order Avons if I want to try them next time.

Preciate Cha!!

Man - I'll tell ya what. People can say what they want about Avons, but they drive NICE... Noticeably enough that unless someone convinces me there is a better tire out there, I don't ever plan on buying anything else.

I have them on both the Ultra Classic and the Night Train.
