keep in mind , when you go to the ss 124 you might want to scrap the belt drive for a chain drive

The S&S motors are very nice. I took a close look at them for my Road King, but in the end decided to split the cases on my stock motor and stroke the crank, beef it up and go with a big bore on top so the VIN on the cases matched the frame.

If you do a heart transplant and the engine VIN doesn't match the frame you are into a builder's title in many areas. In that case the bike is a "one off" as far as insurance is concerned, which can make it a huge pain in the ass to get coverage - let alone replacement value for fire, theft and collision.

Ive had an S&S 124 in my 95 Fatboy for a year with the belt. No problems in roll-on racing but no drag strip use

keep in mind that the S&S 124 inch engine still utilizes the old Shovelhead shaft design. The lighter wheels and shafts may make them rev quicker, but longevity is not what it would be with something like a Jim's bottom end

remember that with a big inch engine, the weakest point will give...I broke 3 primary chains in three years with my big incher. The second one took out the inner primary. Now I have a 3 inch open belt. I blew two final belts in the same three years. The second one got me home, but was missing 26 teeth. The problem is not with strength. The kevlar woven poly chain belts are stronger than a chain. The problem is that the belt stretches, and skips along the top of the sprocket teeth. You can run a belt so long as you inspect the sprockets and belt for wear and tension, regularly.....I found that staying with a 150 rear tire and using the older 1 1/2 inch wide belt worked best. The tire spins before anything breaks....this may not be good for a drag bike, but there is something to be said for riding back home after twisting the wick hard
