Default A real honour

Yesterday I met the President of the Normandy CAV unit, after a few formalities I was introduced to some folks who were manning the MIA POW booth(Toronto Swap Meet), they allowed the CAV the use of there booth, for the event.

One gentlemen that I met was one of the 30000 Canadians who volunteered to join the US military and fight in Vietnam. I shook his hand and told him unequivically that I was HONOURED to meet him and shake his hand.
He joined the US navy, and was a part of Seal Team #1. I'm telling you I could sit and listen to this guy all day and night, he was so humble, and just being in his presence really has a humbling effect on you, yourself,.
He spoke of his return to US soil, where he was assualted and berated, luckily the two cops on the scene were both former marines, much more to that story <BG>

Almost 40 years later he is finally recieving compensation for the effects of agent orange

Our units will be working closely with thiers this summer as we plan events and fund raisers.

A very rewarding and equaly humbling day

Great post Fubar, appreciate that.

When I travel south and if there are seats available in first class, I always pick up the tab to upgrade a soldier (US/CAD) I run into waiting for my flight. The stories told are life changing for me and the appreciation on their face is pricless when I offer. It's the least I can do.

Cheers,

Reading this post sent chills up my arms. It brought back the time when the traveling Wall Memorial made it here to Arlington. Shadow and I went and it was a very humbling experience, one that I will never ever forget. The Vets that showed up to find their friends name on the Wall and get a pencil rubbing of it was very sad. You could still see all the pain in their faces. God Bless our Soldiers and keep a watch over them!

Thanks Fubar for sharing!
