Port Dover's much-hyped attempt to get into the Guinness World Records for holding the single largest motorcycle parade at last June's biker rally has failed.
County officials recorded the number of bikers that day by handing out special tags as they arrived at roadblocks outside of town. They came up with a count -- 12,000, even though more like 30,000 actually rode into town that day -- and sent a package to the Guinness people in England. "They told us it was not good enough," said Clark Hoskin, Norfolk's manager of tourism and economic development. The problem, said Hoskin, was in proving there was a single parade. In the eyes of Guinness, there were three entrances to town that day and thus three parades. "We needed one parade over a defined route over a defined period of time," said Hoskin. Keith Swarts, president of PD13, the citizens group that organizes the rallies, said he is "totally disappointed" the event isn't one for the record books. Click here to read the rest of the story.
