Canadian soldier killed in southern Afghanistan
One Canadian soldier has been killed and another wounded by enemy fire in a rural area in southern Afghanistan, the military confirmed Tuesday.
The soldier was killed around 11:45 a.m. local time Tuesday in a gun battle with militants while on foot patrol in the Pashmul region, in the Zharey district outside Kandahar city. The two soldiers were airlifted by helicopter to Kandahar Airfield, where one was pronounced dead. The injured soldier is in good condition and stable, the military said in a statement.
