For you folks from away, the East coast of Canada, is the home to Celtic music in Canada. It has a very rich heritage in the tradition dating back to the 17th century.
This past year the Maritimes(PEI, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia) lost three legends. John Allen Cameron Dutch Mason Denny Doherty This link is to a tribute to those three...this link focuses on John Allen, his son is the fellow on acoustic, wit the longer hair, and they do show a brief glimpse of his wife, while John's favourite song "Four Mary's" is playing...that song will bring me to my knees every time. Enjoy a little taste of the East Coast http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dl7E7JYCSkc&mode=related&search= |

mmm, my blood started somewhere over there...nova scotia...1756's my family was hearded out and down, down down...down down down...louisiana way...down down down, then we marched some more to the wild frontier. we found a land and called it beaumont. we worked the ground and tended the cattle, and played the fiddle and the spoons. we made a livin' and made life grand, then the soul that was me decided to return to the soil and soul of my ancestors...workin' my way across, to the land of my fathers. workin across and will know my land when i smell it proper. its my land i was hearded off and my land i come to revisit. one day i'll see it, smell it, know it, and kiss the stones of my kin on that mount/valley/hill/cliff...i'll know them when i see them, cause its my blood, my blood i seek and search and will find one day...my acadian blood started out there, my acadian blood calls me still....mmmm, hmmmm, oh yeaaa, yeasss.....oooh yea.....hmmmmmmmmm.
............peace........... |

Very cool....my fathers side is Acadian/Irish as well, there a few larger communities on PEI that fly there flag.
The Acadian Flag was born in the 1800's in Mischouche PEI, and later in Lousiana, I think in the 1960's another flag was created to recognize the Acadians who landed there way back when... The gold Star on the flag represents the Star of the Sea, symbolizing protection of the Virgin Mary, who is the patron saint of the Acadians. |
