Default Lens Cleaning

I just had to clean some headlight lens up for my old P/U truck. Bought some supposedly "wonder stuff" off of the internet, and it was a wonder how they took my money.. :ass: Anyway, I found a way to get the old lens looking good again. I know I did this on a truck, but someone might have a motorcycle plastic lens that needs cleaning up.

1st- go and get a sheet of 1000 and 2000 grit wet or dry sand paper. Wet sand the lens with the 1000 first, then the 2000. When you are done sanding the lens should look better, the yellow or frosty look will be gone.

2nd- Get some very fine polishing compound, and buff the lens with it until the sanding marks are gone. Careful is the word when buffing so you don't overheat the plastic. I used a cordless drill with a buffing wheel on it and could control the speed.

3rd- I used some Meguiars "PLASTX" to do a final polishing of the lens. Again using the buffing pad (cleaned it first) to speed up the process.

As you can see from the pics, the lens now is clear as a bell and looks almost like new.

Hope this helps someone along the way. As this is easy to do and saves allot of money. GM wanted about $500.00 for new headlights, and I did this for about $15.00 material cost and a few minutes time.

Yes it did SM, and easy to do too... I really liked saving the money, maybe shortly, I can invest that savings in the "True TRack" ....

Man, my truck lenses look like shit. I tried the plastic polish, with some improvement. Will give your method a try. Thanks!

It definitely works Gig_em, just make sure you sand it really good before you polish them out.
