I agree with you, however the one Fubar posted about will tell you when it starts getting low because the charging system has quit. The one you posted about will only tell you after it is low, and when you stop and hook it in to the system. As Fubar said, his will allow someone to get to help before the battery is to dead to power the ign. and making the bike stop in it's tracks. That is obviously why all cages either have a "Red light" or a "Red light and a voltage gauge" on them, to warn people to go and get help before it quits in the middle of the road.

BTW, on the late model EFI Harley's, the engine lamp will come on when the charging system has a problem. My bike had a regulator go bad last weekend and the engine light came on. I immediately came home, and replaced the regulator. The light went out when the charging system went back to work. The carbed bikes do not have this feature.
